Jim Warren spoke at the 2018 Mississippi Bar Convention on appellate mediation. The two-hour presentation explored appellate mediation from the mediator’s perspective, including key aspects of appellate law and practice, case evaluation, and techniques for assisting parties in finding the present value of their case on appeal. Warren is a former Chair of the ADR Section of the Mississippi Bar Association, and has been actively involved in efforts by the Section to promote appellate mediation over the past several years. The Women’s Initiative Committee for the Capital Area Bar Association recently hosted a panel of local judges to discuss the topic of advancing women in the legal profession at the Federal Courthouse in Jackson, MS. The following judges participated as panelists for the event: The Honorable Linda Anderson, United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi; The Honorable Dawn Beam, Associate Justice for the Mississippi Supreme Court; The Honorable Cynthia Brewer, Madison County Chancellor; and, the Honorable Denise Owens, Hinds County Chancellor. The event was moderated by Lee Ann Thigpen with Carroll Warren & Parker.
Registration for the event was limited and sold out within three hours of being offered. The discussion was held in a conference style/roundtable format which allowed for a more informal discussion, exchange and interaction between the panel and the attendees. The discussion with the judicial panel ranged from personal backgrounds of the judges to advice on mentoring and work/life balance. Overall, the event was a tremendous success and plans are underway for the next Women’s Initiative Committee event.Read More
